WHEN WE LOVE is a series of net art interventions that discuss proximity, intimacy, and care on the internet—tethered under a dating simulator where you date everything. By Chia Amisola
It is an experience, prompt, and realization about love on screens that extends beyond one screen.
More than a simple 'game', WHEN WE LOVE is a series of interconnected single-player and communally-shaped experiences of variable duration, space, and meaning. It is an invitation to not only meditate on love for one session, but an experience that intervenes on how we are already loving in our present life.
It has manifested itself in performances (Screen Walk, Temporary Performance Assembly), community software (cloudwatching and stargazing), printed matter (the sound of love) and beyond. It received a Rhizome microgrant.
It is a love letter to love in all its forms, Pacthesis, the homegrown web, Runescape boyfriends, fanfiction, "intimacy without proximity", shared languages, offline & online dualities (or lack thereof), virtual worlds present and gone, a study into new expressions of care and being. It is a game, an experience, a realization, a gathering, a shared becoming.
